OTP is a 6-digit one time password (OTP) used to secure your transactions and verify your identity. You will be receiving it on the mobile number you will register to the bank when you‘ll sign up for the service. You can activate the OTP service:

  • via SMS/Viber, through Internet Banking in the "Security Settings" section, by selecting "Manage OTP"
  • via push notification, through the route: Profile > Settings > Notifications > General > OTPs, for the device you have the NBG Mobile Banking app installed.

To change the mobile phone number, log on to Internet Banking, go to ‘Settings’ – ‘View Profile’ – ‘Change Details’ in ‘Contact Number’, and enter your new telephone number. You will also need access to your old mobile phone number so you can confirm the change and complete the procedure.

The most common reasons for not receiving the OTP on a mobile phone are:

  • There is no signal from your service provider at that time.
  • Your incoming messages are blocked (messages are sent via webservice).  Incoming messages might be blocked either by yourself or by your service provider.
  • Your inbox is full.
  • You need to restart your device.
  • OTPs are sent to the old mobile phone number you gave us when you signed up for the OTP service.

In any case, we recommend trying again later.

If you are using your Greek number abroad, you receive OTPs via written text through your provider’s roaming service.

The most common reasons an OTP isn’t working are:

  • You are trying to use a previous OTP (a common mistake when making many transactions and receiving many messages).
  • The code is no longer active (5 min).
  • The code is not entered correctly.
  • There is also the case that you didn’t receive the OTP you requested during the transaction due to a lack of signal from your service provider. So, the 5 min expired, and you requested a new OTP. One of the messages you didn’t receive within the 5 min period might get sent at a later time, even after completing the transaction. You need to check the transaction details listed in the OTP message so that you can confirm they relate to the transaction you want to make.

In any case, we recommend trying again later.
