i-bank Internet Banking in a few simple steps

  • Registration
    If you are already NBG customer, you can subscribe to the Bank's Internet & Mobile Banking services from your mobile phone without visiting a NBG Branch.

    Download the NBG mobile banking application on your mobile and just a few steps away, you get i-bank credentials to access Internet & Mobile Baking services.
    All you need is an active NBG's Debit Card.

    If you are not a customer visit a Bank Branch and you will be immediately served.
    Find out about the required ID verification documents at "Have you introduced yourselves? f not ... do it now".
  • Activating the OTP via mobile message service
    After registering your mobile number will be linked to the OTP via mobile message service, in order to receive one-time passwords that are required for the secure completion of your money or security transactions. The OTPs will be sent to your mobile phone number via Viber or via SMS (in the event that it’s not possible to send OTPs to your mobile phone via Viber, e.g.  the Viber app isn’t installed, or there’s no internet connection, or in case you’ve specifically chosen not to receive NBG messages through Viber).
  • Creating a password
    Visit our webpage at www.nbg.gr and go to "Internet Banking/Login retail" in order to login to the homepage of the service. Then select "New user? Click here" and follow the instructions displayed on your screen to create a password.
  • Getting started
    You are now ready to explore i-bank Internet/Phone & Mobile Banking using your Username and the Password you created.
  • Transactions using OTPs
    An OTP is required for the completion of money or security transactions. The one-time password is generated by the Bank's central system and sent via Viber or SMS to the mobile number that you gave us when you registered for the i-bank services. The OTP can also be generated by the i-code device (this concerns Business customers who are holders of the relevant device).

    Each time you want to complete a transaction that requires an OTP, please follow the steps below:
    • enter the transaction details
    • click on "Continue", and then
    • enter the OTP sent via message to your mobile device.

    The OTP will be sent within a few seconds to the mobile phone number you have chosen when you registered to the OTP service. 

    Within a few seconds you'll receive on the mobile phone number you chose when registering to the service a Viber message sent by "i-bank" that will include:
    • the main details of the transaction,
    • a 6-digit code (OTP), and
    • a 3-digit code (check code).

    These three (3) sets of data are fully aligned with each other and correspond only to the specific transaction.
    The OTP is valid for five (5) minutes, during which time you can enter in the relevant field:
    • the 6-digit code received by mobile message, and then
    • click on "Submit".

    A 3-digit check code is displayed on your screen upon completion of the transaction. This 3-digit code should be the same as the 3-digit check code sent by mobile message.

    In the event that it’s not possible to send OTPs to your mobile phone via Viber (e.g. the app isn’t installed, or there’s no internet connection) or in case you don’t wish to receive OTPs via Viber (i.e. you’ve specifically chosen not to receive NBG messages through the app), you’ll receive your OTPs via SMS.

    If you don’t wish to receive OTPs via Viber, you can deactivate the option to receive OTPs via Viber by selecting the respective option in the message sent to you by NBG via Viber, and OTPs will continue to be sent via SMS.

    You can reactivate Viber OTPs at any time through Viber by going to: More > Settings > Privacy > Block list > Unblock.

  • Is it safe to carry out transactions via Internet Banking?

    We have made very substantial investments in our security systems, deploying strict transaction security specifications in line with international standards. 

    For us, the security of banking transactions carried out via Internet Banking is a top priority, both as regards the protection of your personal data and the confidentiality and integrity of the transactions you carry out.

    The best evidence of our customers’ trust is the ever increasing number of our Internet/Mobile/Phone Banking users. In addition, we constantly monitor developments in i-bank electronic services security-related issues and are quick to deploy the most advanced technological applications to safeguard your transactions.

    Such measures are the use of disposable codes generated by the Bank's central system and sent via text message to mobile phone you have registered when you subscribed to the services i-bank Internet / Phone & Mobile banking.

    It goes without saying that you too are responsible for the security of the transactions you carry out:  you should follow carefully all our security advice and instructions regarding the protection of your computer and the confidentiality of your private data, as displayed on "Transaction Security".

  • Can I get receipts for the transactions I perform via Internet Banking?
    You can obtain and print an electronic receipt for your transaction, which records the exact time of the transaction.

    If you wish, you can also have this receipt validated at any of our NBG Branches (signed by authorized personnel).
  • Which of my financial dues, personal or family, can I pay via Internet Banking?
    Via Internet Banking you can pay your family monthly financial dues, such as  electricity, water supply and telephony /Internet bills.

    Moreover, you can pay dues regarding VAT and income tax payments, IKA Social Insurance payments, insurance companies and funds, plus others.

  • How easy is it for me to pay my bills via Internet Banking?
    The procedure is really very simple.  Just select the company or organization you wish to pay from the drop-down “Payments” menu. 
    On the next screen, you simply choose the Internet Banking-linked account from which you want the money to be debited and type in the precise amount to pay.

    If you need further assistance in making the payment, you can see at the “Help” option of the transaction concerned.
  • Can I pay bills for other people?
    Yes. If you want to pay bills for other people via your Internet-linked accounts, all you need is the relevant information and payment codes stated on the bills.
  • Can I pay my credit card via Internet Banking?
    Yes. You can pay your credit card via Internet Banking, whether it has been issued by NBG or another bank participating in the DIAS system.  Furthermore, it does not have to be your own card.  
    All you have to do is follow the instructions on the Internet Banking transaction screen and fill in the required fields.

    If  the credit card was issued by NBG, all you need to do is select the card from a drop-down list (if the card is someone else’s) or type its number, select the linked account you wish to debit and type the amount.  This transaction is free of charge.

    If the credit card was issued by another bank, you must select this bank from a drop-down list that includes all DIAS-linked banks.  This payment transaction is subject to a very low charge.  If, at any time, you need clarifications, for every transaction you can click on “Help” and find out all you need to know in order to fill out the fields required.
  • Can I pay my rent via Internet Banking?
    Yes. Select your account to be debited, fill out the amount to pay, and then select the landlord’s account to be credited. The landlord’s account can be held with NBG, another bank in Greece, or even another bank elsewhere in the EU.

    If the landlord’s account is held with NBG, the Internet Banking service gives you the option to make a standing order to pay your rent automatically on a specific date, every month.  The standing order can be cancelled at any time.
  • My child is studying abroad and I often have to send him money to cover his expenses and needs.  Is it possible to do this via Internet Banking?
    Yes. Our Internet Banking service is of help to you both.  All you have to do is credit the amount you want to your child’s account, at any time, even during weekends when banks are closed.  If his account is also with NBG, the money transfer is free of charge.

    Once he sees that his account has been credited with the money you sent, he can withdraw it from his account using his ETHNOCASH PLUS card at any ATM displaying the Cirrus/Maestro logo.
    If your child is a student abroad in another EU country, he can open a deposit account in a local bank to which you can send money in the same way. 

    Money transfer fees in this case are very low and, what is more, if the account from which the money is debited is a "Student Life Account" there is no charge by NBG for its side of the transaction.
  • I am an overseas resident and I hold a deposit account with NBG.  Can I sign up for Internet Banking services in my country of residence?
    For your own security and to best safeguard your interests, you need to apply for NBG’s Internet Banking service at one of our Branches in Greece, where we deliver to you in person your Username with which you can thereafter carry out your NBG banking transactions online.
