As part of its social strategy and with a focus on financial literacy, NBG, in partnership with Accenture, Professor Michael Haliassos, and the non-profit organization Komvos – Node, are launching the ENNOIA Initiative.

The goal of this multidisciplinary and open initiative is to support Greek households by enhancing their knowledge and ability to make sound financial decisions, effectively manage their finances, and ensure their financial resilience and prosperity

In this way, the initiative can make a significant contribution to strengthening the country's overall economic stability and growth, creating a more sustainable, secure and inclusive economic environment for all.

ENNOIA is funded exclusively by NBG and is structured around 3 main pillars:

Research Hub

Supporting scientific research on issues related to household financial empowerment and financial inclusion.

Digital Hub

Fostering entrepreneurship and the development of innovative products, services and tools to help households in financial education and sound economic decision-making.

Community Hub

Promoting the transfer of knowledge and solutions related to financial education and household financial decisions through a specialized website, conferences, and other information actions.

Specifically, a Research Committee chaired by Professor Michael Haliassos, with the participation of representatives of the international academic community, as well as executives of National Bank of Greece and Accenture, will announce, commission and evaluate relevant scientific research. In the future, the results of such studies will be communicated and can contribute to the development of innovative solutions as described below.

Entrepreneurship and innovative products, services and tools (e.g. apps) will be promoted to help households in financial education and sound economic decision-making. The first action in this pillar concerns up to five Special Financial Literacy Awards for Empowering Households in their Financial Decision-Making that will be presented at the 15th annual NBG Business Seeds Innovation and Technology Competition.
The transfer of knowledge and solutions related to financial education and household financial decisions will be promoted through a specialized website set up under the ENNOIA initiative, conferences for researchers and other stakeholders, as well as other awareness enhancing actions. The basis of this pillar will be formed mainly by the results of the actions of the pillars of research and innovation, with a view to making a significant positive impact in the community.

National Bank of Greece: Senior NBG executives participate in the Executive Committee and the Research Committee, deciding on strategic issues and contributing to the achievement of the objectives of all 3 pillars.

Accenture: Executives of the consulting firm Accenture will be contributing to the work of the initiative by participating in the decision-making committees, designing the website of "ENNOIA", and providing know-how, especially on digital economy issues, and on the actions related to all 3 pillars of the initiative.

Michael Haliassos: Professor of Macroeconomics and Finance at Goethe University Frankfurt, Mr. Haliassos is participating in ENNOIA, undertaking the overall coordination of the initiative, the chairmanship of the Research Committee and responsibility for submitting proposals for the implementation of individual actions in all pillars in cooperation with the other members.

Komvos: The non-profit organization Komvos actively contributes to the actions of the initiative by providing advisory support both regarding the content of the website and the conclusions of the conferences of the initiative. Komvos will also promote through its activity the actions of the initiative in which representatives or members of its network participate, enhancing dissemination and awareness of its actions throughout Greek society.
