NBG i-bank services use state-of-the-art security technology to ensure that your Internet Banking transactions are fully protected:

  • NBG authenticity

NBG has been issued with a Web presence authentication certificate from Verisign, the leading certificate authority worldwide. The certificate is displayed on the system's home page and is available to the user throughout the use of Internet Banking services.
  • User authentication

    - The Internet Banking application “recognizes” authorised users and allows them access to the system on the basis of their UserID and Password. Every Internet Banking user has his own, unique UserID and enters the Password he wishes (following the Bank’s password policy instructions on the transaction window), by inserting an OTP generated by the i-code device.

    - If an invalid UserID and/or Password is entered four times, access is denied and the Password is blocked. To regain access, you should contact NBG’s Contact Center (at 181818, if you’re in Greece or +30 210 48 48 484, if you’re outside Greece) to be put through to one of our agents and follow the instructions given.
  • Preventing unauthorized access to the system

If no transaction activity has taken place for more than 10 minutes in the Internet Banking application, the system automatically returns to the home page and you need to re-enter your codes if you wish to continue. This helps prevent unauthorised access to the system.
  • Additional security for money and security transactions

    - Additional security for money and security transactions (e.g. change of password) via Internet Banking is provided by one-time passwords (OTPs) generated by the i-code device.

    - The i-code is a small, electronic device, available to all users of NBG Internet /Phone /Mobile Banking upon their registration.The i-code device ensures that each transaction is indeed being carried out by the holder of that device. Each code is valid for only 32’’ and cannot be used afterwards. Thus, nobody can produce codes and store them for later use. This eliminates the possibility of code interception for use later on (e.g. phishing).

    - Upon completion of the transaction, the three-digit confirmation code that appears on the Internet Banking screen should be the same as the three-digit code generated by the i-code device when pressed immediately afterwards.

    - In addition, these codes are generated on the basis of the 3DES strong encryption algorithm, ensuring a superior security level certified by leading international organizations.

It is important to bear in mind that you, too, share responsibility for the security of your transactions: Please take time to read our customer security guidelines displayed under "Transaction Security".
